Overview

Product Description

JackJaw 502 Stake Puller for Hard Ground and Flush Stake Removal

JackJaw 502 Stake Puller is engineered for demanding teardown conditions where standard pullers fall short. Designed to extract 3/4 inch (19.05 mm) to 1 1/4 inch (31.75 mm) diameter tent stakes or rebar, this model is purpose-built for hard ground environments and for removing stakes longer than 42 inches (1,066.8 mm). These challenges commonly occur in tight caliche clay found in the Southwestern US or in frozen ground, where added leverage and controlled extraction are essential.

The JackJaw 502 combines a longer telescopic handle with case-hardened cam-shaped jaws to deliver exceptional pulling power while keeping the force aligned with the stake shaft. This straight-line extraction helps prevent bending stakes and reduces damage to surrounding surfaces, supporting safer and more efficient teardown for professional crews.

Why the JackJaw 502 Matters

Hard soil and extra-long stakes dramatically increase resistance during removal, placing strain on both equipment and operators. The JackJaw 502 converts controlled downward force into powerful upward extraction, allowing crews to remove deeply driven stakes with less effort. By operating through lever action and body weight rather than lifting, it helps prevent back strain and injury while improving teardown speed in extreme conditions.

Key Features

  • Designed for hard ground conditions and extra-long stakes
  • Removes 3/4 inch to 1 1/4 inch diameter tent stakes or rebar
  • Handles stakes longer than 42 inches (1,066.8 mm)
  • Delivers a 28-to-1 mechanical advantage
  • Aligned pulling action helps prevent stake bending and surface damage

How the JackJaw 502 Works

Step 1: Extend the Telescopic Handle

Extend the longer telescopic handle to the appropriate length for maximum leverage. Ensure the handle is fully secured before applying force.

Step 2: Position and Engage the Jaws

Place the puller over the exposed portion of the stake or rebar. Align the case-hardened cam-shaped jaws around the stake shaft so the pulling force remains straight and controlled.

Step 3: Apply Downward Force

Push down on the handle using body weight. Applying 100 lbs (45.36 kg) of force generates approximately 2800 lbs (1,270.06 kg) of upward force on the stake.

Step 4: Extract the Stake

The stake is pulled straight out of the ground, reducing resistance and helping preserve reusable stakes even in frozen or compacted soil.

Adjustable Base for Flush Stakes

The JackJaw 502 features an adjustable base that facilitates removal of stakes that have been pounded flush with the ground or installed in stake bars or stake plates. This capability expands the toolÂ’s versatility across varied anchoring systems. The model is usually used with the AC0009 adapter to support these applications.

Construction and Durability

Patented JackJaw Extractors are manufactured in Dayton, Ohio from heavy gauge steel plate and tubing to withstand everyday job site use. The jaws are made from case-hardened AR400 steel for long wear and are easily replaceable when needed. To eliminate paint chipping and improve corrosion resistance, the unit features a zinc and clear chromate plating for long-lasting durability.

Usage Notes

The JackJaw 502 Stake Puller is intended for extreme anchoring conditions where additional leverage and versatility are required. Always ensure the telescopic handle is fully extended and locked before use. When removing flush-installed stakes, use the appropriate adapter and confirm proper alignment. Routine inspection and correct operation help protect operators, preserve reusable stakes, and support safe, efficient teardown in the most demanding environments.
